NordicTunes is a digital platform that offers Nordic folk music tunes online
ā from the basics for beginners to advanced tunes for more experienced musicians.
About NordicTunes
My name is Kim Risberg, and I am the person behind NordicTunes. I am a Finnish citizen but grew up in Sweden. Over the years, I have also been strongly inspired by Norwegian folk music. This has naturally exposed me to folk music from several places ā Finland, Sweden, and Norway ā something that has influenced both my playing and my overall view of folk music.
Iāve played the diatonic accordion on and off for about forty years, and itās become an instrument I always return to.
For more than ten years, Iāve spent my summers teaching tune workshops at NƤƤs here in Sweden, where we explore Nordic music and learn through ear-playing, visually, and sheet music.
As early as 1872, August Abrahamson and his nephew Otto Salomon started a work school that included handicraft in the curriculum for boys, and a couple of years later also for girls
From NƤƤs to NordicTunes
NordicTunes grew out of those workshops. I wanted to offer the same welcoming and flexible learning experience online, so players everywhere can learn Nordic tunes in the way that suits them best.
After years of playing, teaching, and meeting folk musicians of all levels, I wanted to create a place where the music is always within reach.
Whether youāre looking for new tunes, inspiration, or want to dive deeper into Nordic folk music, youāll find everything gathered in the Shop.
There you can explore a growing collection of tunes ā listen, watch how theyāre played – at your own pace.
The Playhouse is located in the NƤƤs handicraft area and was built in 1905 for play and dance courses for the students of the NƤƤs Craft Seminar. The ceiling height is remarkable, and the preserved interior makes the building truly unique.
These traditional tunes are my own interpretations and versions, played the way Iāve learned them. Theyāve surely appeared in other forms as well ā thatās the beauty of folk music.
I invite you to find your own voice within my versions.
Please note that the tunes and samples are recorded using a G/C diatonic accordion.
